Overview/Goal:
The Competitive Analysis below is an example focusing on assessing two cloud platforms, Amazon Web Service and Microsoft Azure. The analysis separates information about both platforms into the following categories: Company History, Pricing Model, Optimal Customer Size, the Softwares’ Main Integrations, Main Features and Similarities, and Main Differences. I created the chart using Lucidchart. This is a tool I would use in project planning, it is very likely to be used during the planning phase of a project.
Case:
I was assigned to a project team that was still in the planning phase of a project. Our team was trying to make the best decision on the correct software vendor to go with for a new implementation project. I was assigned the task of creating a Comparison & Contrast Document Presentation for the purpose of Vendor selection by the Project Manager.
Results:
By using the Competitive Analysis to analyze the core features of and comparison between AWS vs. Azure, I was able to effectively communicate to the Project Manager and team my findings on the two cloud platforms. This easy-to-read visualization allowed the team to have generally the same foundational knowledge on both platforms to make a collaborative and informed decision on what vendor to choose for the project. By the end of the meeting, we had a good idea of what direction we wanted to go in and a list of additional requirements gathering questions for the client so we could really narrow it down to the perfect choice for the goals of the project.
